A Gaza Mother’s Cancer Journey with Mariam Support

Mary Eilabouni and her daughter Wardi

Mary Eilabouni was the proud parent of a dedicated volunteer and a talented musician who was part of our Mariam Foundation family. Her journey with us took an unexpected turn when she attended one of our medical days for early breast cancer screening. It was during that visit that she received a life-changing diagnosis: early-stage breast cancer.

Thanks to early detection and immediate medical intervention, Mary was able to begin treatment in time. The journey wasn’t easy, like many fighters, she faced chemotherapy, which led to the loss of her hair. One of the most touching moments during her battle was when her young daughter Wardi, too innocent to fully understand, kept asking: “Where did Mommy’s hair go?

The Mariam Foundation stood by Mary and her family every step of the way. Inspired by her daughter’s heartfelt question, the Mariam Foundation created a children’s storybook titled “My Mother’s Braid.” This book helps young children understand what their loved ones go through during cancer treatment, easing their fears and answering their questions in a gentle, comforting way.

Today, Mary is cancer-free, a survivor, and a beacon of hope. Her story reminds us all of the power of early detection, the importance of community support, and the incredible strength of mothers who fight not just for themselves but for their families.

Friends, CIDO takes great pride in sharing these stories of hope from Gaza through the Mariam Foundation, and we are grateful to be supported by individuals and foundations from many cultural and religious backgrounds. Together, we are making a difference through truly meaningful impact.

For those who have been observing Ramadan, may your Eid be filled with joy, happiness, and prosperity as you celebrate this special time with family and friends. As Ramadan comes to a close, we invite you to continue the act of giving. Any donation made at this time will be eligible for Zakat, providing a meaningful way to support Gaza children in need during this sacred period.

Please consider giving now and giving generously.

With deep appreciation for your generosity,

Shawky Fahel MSM
